The best home:
“And they feed for the love of Allah, the poor, the orphan, and the captive…” (Surah Al Insan,8)
We are urged in the Quran and Ahadith to treat the orphans with kindness and not harshness.
Allah says” therefore, treat not the orphans with harshness”(Quran 93:9)
Abu Hurairah(Radi Yallahu anhu) reported that Rasulullah Sallallāhu Alayhi Wasallam said:the best home of the Muslin is one in which there is an orphan who is treated well, and the worst home is one wherein there is an orphan who is treated badly”.(IbnMajah)
Closeness to Rasulullah Sallallāhu Alayhi Wasallam:
Sahl bin Sa’ad(Radi Yallahu anhu) re[ported that Rasulullah Sallallāhu Alayhi Wasallam said:the person who supports an orphan will be so close to me in Jannah as these two fingers, and he demonstrated it by joining his two fingers.(Bukhari)
A way to enter Jannah:
Abdullah bin abbas(radi Allahu anhu) reported that Rasulullah Sallallāhu Alayhi Wasallam said, that whoever took the responsibility of feeding and clothing the orphan, will divinely be admitted to Jannah, provided he has not committed any offence as cannot be forgiven.(Tirmidhi)
A cure for hard heartedness:
Hurairah(radi Allahu anhu) reported that a man once came to Rasulullah Sallallāhu Alayhi Wasallam and complained of hard heartedness.RasulullahSallallāhu Alayhi Wasallam said” would you like that your heart becomes soft and that you acquire what you need?” be merciful with the orphan, pat his head and feed him from what you eat. This will soften your heart.” (Ahmad)
Allah Ta’ala says in the Quran”: they ask you as how they will spend. Say whatever you spend of wealth, let it be for parents and kindred and orphans and the needy and the wayfarer, and whatever good you do, surely Allah is the knower thereof.” (Quran 2:215)
