Q&A Marriage Mail

Question:

I received a proposal from a boy.I heard he is a pious good brother. I’m inclined to him because he is pious. But I’m not too sure about marrying him as I don’t feel attracted to him. I feel if I marry him, I wont be able to love him because im not attracted to him. Please advise me what to do.

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Rasullullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam has mentioned that if one of you finds a good pious spouse, do not delay in getting married.

إِذَا خَطَبَ إِلَيْكُمْ مَنْ تَرْضَوْنَ دِينَهُ وَخُلُقَهُ فَزَوِّجُوهُ (سنن الترمذي)

“If someone proposes to you whose piety and akhlaq you admire, marry him.” (Sunan At-Tirmidhi)[1]

If you have conducted a research on this boy and you are satisfied with his piety, akhlaaq and that he is a good person, then you should not delay in accepting his proposal. Initially, he may seem like a stranger to you since you do not know each other well. But as time passes, he will show you love and affection and will look after your needs. He will be there to support you in the time of difficulty and hardship. He will share happy moments with you and console you when you are feeling sad or depressed. He will give you utmost comfort and protect you physically and mentally from anything that may harm you. Eventually, this will become the cause for you to fall in love with him. Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’alā has placed a natural love in marriage which begins right after the nikkah.
