Question:

I am 16 years old

I have questions regarding my freedom as a female muslim teen that the Internet may give me false info and my mother also confusing me by mixing religion and culture. I’ve been struggling to get a clear answer to some of my questions that I hope you could answer.

1) For the purpose of education, am I allowed to travel to a city less than an hour away for college. I’m going partly into medicine and the education I need is not provided by my city and I will only go for two years coming back and forth occasionally. So what is the ruling on that situation and do I need to have a mahram?

2) Inshallah, in the future I want to become a child psychiatrist after I’m married. I will also inshallah be wearing a niqab (is niqab mandatory?) in the future but my occupation will not compromise that accordingly to the types of clients I deal with. preferably I will work from an home office but if not what do suggest? I may also do some writing and producing it so I was wondering if that is allowed?

3)Can i get a job in high school only dealing with women or children.

i know that its not my responsibility to earn money but i just want to do it for the sake of having something to do.

Please if you could answer these questions , it would help.

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

We commend you for being Allah conscious and seeking guidance with regards to the matters in reference.Whilst Muslims do need doctors and professionals in every field, the colleges and universities of today compromises one’s Deen. If there is a college and university which is in full conformity with the laws of Shariah, then it would be permissible for you to pursue a course.

Travelling without a Mahram will not be permissible.

It is praiseworthy to note that you are intending to wear the Niqab. It is compulsory to wear the Niqab.

Your job as a child psychiatrist will be permissible. You may work from home, do some writing and practice without interacting with males.

It is permissible for you to get a job in a high school dealing with women and children only and no interaction with men. ^{[1] [2] [3]}

قال: (ويكره للمرأة الحرة أن تسافر سفرا ثلاثة أيام إلا مع ذي محرم، أو زوج).

لقول النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: “لا يحل لامرأة تؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر أن تسافر ثلاثة أيام إلا مع ذي رحم محرم، أو زوج”.

(قوله في سفر) هو ثلاثة أيام ولياليها فيباح لها الخروج إلى ما دونه لحاجة بغير محرم بحر، وروي عن أبي حنيفة وأبي يوسف كراهة خروجها وحدها مسيرة يوم واحد، وينبغي أن يكون الفتوى عليه لفساد الزمان شرح اللباب ويؤيده حديث الصحيحين «لا يحل لامرأة تؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر أن تسافر مسيرة يوم وليلة إلا مع ذي محرم عليها» وفي لفظ لمسلم «مسيرة ليلة» وفي لفظ «يوم»
