‘And remain in your homes’

Question:

My question relates to a women’s place being at home, i have heard that if a wife goes out to work she takes away the Barkat of her husbands earnings, i would like to know if this is true and could Mufti kindly give me the Hadith or Ayaat which stipulate such.
Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Sister in Islam,

As a core principle you should understand that a woman’s place is at home.

Allah Ta’ala says:

‘And remain in your homes’.

{Surah Ahzab verse 33}

It is clear from the above verse that a woman should remain in her home. She should not exit her home without a reason acceptable in Shariah.

If there is a need for her to exit her home and there is justification in Shariah for such a need, then she may exit her home on condition she does not violate any laws of Shariah for example moving around without Hijab or intermingling with the opposite gender.

Any violation of Shariah deprives one of the Barakaat and blessings of Allah.

Shariah does not prohibit a woman from working per se. She may work and earn an income or even administer her wealth. A woman may work in the confines of her home for example home industry or out of her home while adhering to the laws of Shariah.

If her husband is earning an income and the needs of a woman are fulfilled, it is not permissible for her to exit the home to earn her own income if she will end up violating the laws of Hijab.By doing so; she incurs the wrath of Allah and deprives herself of Barakaat and blessings.

And Allah knows best,
