Question:

I’ve been bothered about this for a while and all of the people I’ve asked never really gave a satisfying answer.

My question is regarding make up in islam, I know the heavy makeup that calls attention is bad. But what about light make up, that doesn’t call attention. Like powder and kohl?

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

 

You refer to makeup that calls attention. You premise that light makeup does not cause attention. That is incorrect.

In reality, the face of a woman is a natural call for attention, whether she uses light makeup or heavy makeup.

A woman must conceal her face in front of ghair mahram (men with whom marriage is permissible), let alone makeup of her face.

A married woman may apply any type of makeup for her husband on condition that the makeup does not contain any haram ingredients.[1]
