Question:

I am currently suffering with a bladder infection, I have a constant urge to urinate. Sometimes it is not possible for me to use the restroom this results in me experiencing these random spasms down there, sometimes I feel a sudden gushing. The discharge that is found is sometimes murky , sometimes yellow and sometimes clear. Does the emission of this discharge require ghusl?

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

May Allah grant you complete Shifaa. Ameen

The general discharge experienced by a woman is either:

1. Urine
2. Mani (semen)- either by having a wet dream or during intercourse
3. Haidh (menstruation)
4. Nifaas (post-natal bleeding)
5. Istihaadah (dysfunctional uterine discharge)

Ghusl becomes compulsory: [i]

1. Upon discharge of Mani.
2. Upon termination of Haidh.
3. Upon termination of Nifaas.

You may follow the above rule in determining whether Ghusl is compulsory or not. If your assessment is that the discharge is either urine or Istihaadah (dysfunctional uterine discharge), then you do not need to perform ghusl. If you are unsure of the nature of the discharge, you may refer to an Aalimah (female learned person) or an elderly female in your family for advice.
