Question:
Is it permissible for a Muslim lady to apply black henna on her hair married or not?
Answer:
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
It is not permissible for a muslim woman to apply black henna regardless she is married or not. Consider the following hadith;
يكون في آخر الزمان قوم يخضبون بالسواد كحواصل الحمام لا يريحون رائحة الجنة
Translation.
“There will be people who will come later (in my Ummah) who will dye their hair black like the crops of pigeons. They will not even smell the fragrance of paradise.” [1]
Other colours besides black can be applied provided the ingredients are halal and she wishes to adorn herself for her husband. [2]
