Question:

My question is whether girl’s circumcision is in the shariah.

Did our Prophet approve  of such custom.

If yes, why nothing of it has been mentionned concerning his wives and daughters circumcision?

Plse support all answers by depicted ahaadiths

 

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

The encouragement of female circumcision is understood from the following Hadith of Rasulullah (صلي الله عليه وسلم),

«الْخِتَانُ سُنَّةٌ لِلرِّجَالِ، مَكْرُمَةٌ لِلنِّسَاءِ»

“Circumcision is a Sunnah for men and a noble deed for women.”[1]

It is clear from the above quoted Hadith that female circumcision is merely a praiseworthy deed which has its benefits.[2]

If a woman chooses not to circumcise, there is no sin nor will she be blamed. [3]

It is also important to distinguish between female circumcision and genital mutilation. Obviously, genital mutilation is impermissible and has no basis in Islam.[4]

Female circumcision is not genital mutilation.[5]

وختان المرأة ليس سنة بل مكرمة للرجال وقيل سنة

لأنه ألذ في الجماع زيلعي (قوله وقيل سنة) جزم به البزازي معللا بأنه نص على أن الخنثى تختن، ولو كان ختانها مكرمة لم تختن الخنثى، لاحتمال أن تكون امرأة ولكن لا كالسنة في حق الرجال اهـ. أقول: وختان الخنثى لاحتمال كونه رجلا، وختان الرجل لا يترك فلذا كان سنة احتياطا ولا يفيد ذلك سنيته للمرأة تأمل.

وفي ” الدراية “: ذكر الختانين بناء على عادة العرب فإنهم يختنون النساء قال – صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ – «الختان للرجل سنة وللنساء مكرمة» ، أي في حق الزوج فإن جماع المختونة ألذ،
