Question:
I have a major problem Mufti Sahab. There seems to be no barakah in my life, no happiness, no peace nothing. Every time I try and do business it flops. Either that the goods don’t turn out good, or people don’t want to buy from me. trying so hard to earn some living but to no avail. what can I do to get some peace and try and get barakah.
I read namaaz but some days I tend to miss some. I don’t know what is going on. If I am effected with some bad luck?
Answer:
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Allāh Ta`ālā sent us to this world so that he can test us and determine who is deserving of a life of perpetual happiness in the ākhirah. He the Almighty says in the Holy Qur’ān:
Be sure we shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods or lives or the fruits (of your toil), but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere. Who say, when afflicted with calamity: “To Allah We belong, and to Him is our return.” Such are they on whom are blessings from their Lord, and mercy. Such are the rightly guided. [Al-Baqarah: 155-157]
Like us, the prophets before us were also tested in many ways. Some were even deprived on their wealth for long periods such as Ayyūb (`alayhis salām).[1] However, in face of all these trials, they showed patience and turned to Allāh Ta`ālā in their moment of need and expressed their gratitude for all the other blessings Allāh Ta`ālā had bestowed them with.[2]
You may feel that bad luck has surrounded you, but it is very likely that Allāh Ta`ālā is reminding you that you should not place all your trust on materialistic things; rather, you should turn to him and not blame “bad luck” for the outcomes of your business. The true ingredient to success in this life and the hereafter is to place one’s reliance in Allāh Ta`ālā alone. Once you have understood this, you will see the fruits of your trust and your heart will also come to ease if you are to face any shortcomings. Allāh the Almighty says in the Holy Qur’ān:
And whoever fears Allah, for him Allah brings forth a way out, and gives him provision (of his needs) from where he does not even imagine. And whoever places his trust in Allah, He is sufficient for him. [Al-Qur’ān, Al-Talāq, 2-3]
We also advise to recite the following for attaining barakah in your business dealings:
1) Recite the following verse frequently after each salāh:[3]
Allah is very Gracious and Kind to His slaves. He gives provisions to whom He wills. And He is the All-Strong, the All-Mighty. [Al-Qur’ān, 42:19]
2) Make a habit of reciting Sūrah al-Qāri`ah (Sūrah 101) frequently.[4]
3) Also make a habit of reciting the verse of Al-Kursī (Sūrah Al-Baqarah, verse 255) abundantly before conducting any business dealing.[5]
May Allāh Ta`ālā grant you his blessings in this life and the hereafter. Āmīn.
And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
