At a Madrassah class recently, our Muallima explained to us the importance of checking our Niyyah before, during and upon the completion of any task. It was then that I realized; “There is a difference between being busy and being productive.”
As human beings, we become creatures of routine. Often enough we become involved in daily activities, which regardless of their importance, we may begin to consider the tasks mundane and pointless.
No activity is devoid of reward, provided that we first check our niyyah. Let me share some insight with you……….
We were advised to make a Niyyah every day, (something to the effect of):
“Yaa Allah. Please accept all the good that I will do today solely for your pleasure, grant me success, forgive me for my sins and errors and grant me barakah. Bismillahirrahmaanniraheem.”
This way, Insha Allah, even the monotonous activities of waiting in traffic, packing away the laundry, doing the dishes and picking up the kids will be greatly rewarded, Ameen. Thus enabling us to be successful and paving our way to Jannah whilst we “live”.
We were also advised that at the end of every day to make shukr for all that we have, so that we may not be counted amongst the ungrateful, (something to the effect of):
“Yaa Allah shukr for everything that you have blessed me with today and everyday. Please forgive my sins and errors and grant me barakah. Alhamdulillah.”
I offer you the following guidelines in an effort to becoming productive and ultimately successful:
1. Make Dua for Barakah in time and all resources. We cannot bring back time, so avoid wasting it.
2. Realize that true success means salvation in the Hereafter, Jannah.
3. Prioritize your tasks and remove sinful and frivolous activities, therefore clearing up more time for ibadah.
4. Set goals with time limits.
5. Check your intentions and adhere to the teachings of our beloved Rasulullah Sallallāhu Alayhi Wasallam.
