Fashion Shows and High Tea

Question:

Is fashion shows and high teas encouraged in Islam where women leave their homes and dress up to participate in these events especially prior to Ramadaan please advise me from both a taqwa as well as fatwa level.

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

A woman is permitted to leave her home out of a necessity that is valid in Shari’ah.

Attending to exhibit in a fashion show and high teas is not a valid excuse in Shari’ah for a woman to leave her home.

Therefore, even from a fatwa point of view it is not permissible. Furthermore, we have heard of many unislamic factors in such shows.
