Ramadhan in U.K

Tell me dear sisters in Islam, who else would fast 21 long hours a day, suppressing their desires, forsaking their food and drink and then stand in a long night prayer performing 20 rakaats of Taraweeh salaah OTHER than a loving SERVANT of Allah!!!

Yes, indeed the Muslims of U.K are currently experiencing some of the longest fasts of their lives, yet the ecstasy of being in such a blessed state for an extensive time, and the pleasure of doing all this simply to please Allah (aza wajal) truly makes the efforts of this blessed month worthwhile.

Ramadhan the month of blessings, Ramadhan the month of peace, mercy and forgiveness dawns upon the inhabitants of United Kingdom like a sudden gush of beautiful, refreshing rain. Cleansing the Believers of their habitual performance of sin, washing away the filth of evil gathered over the previous months of the year. Those that strive to get themselves wet under the amazing downfall of mercy truly find themselves tasting the sweetness of worship in this month.

Doesn’t it feel great to pick up the Quran and recite it in this blessed month, doesn’t it feel great to forsake ones desires by fasting in Ramadhan, and doesn’t it feel great to stand up in prayer at night listening to the mesmerising recitation of the Quran? Indeed it does and this truly is the beauty and essence of this blessed month.

Dear readers exert yourselves in worship as much as you can, lose yourselves in the never ending mercy that descends and do not separate from this month without securing your forgiveness. As it has been mentioned in a hadith of Bukhari:

Ka’b Ibn Ujrah (radhiallahu anhu) relates that Rasullullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said, “Come near the pulpit,” and so we came near the pulpit. When he ascended the first step of the pulpit, he said, “Ameen.” When he ascended the second step, he said, “Ameen.” When he ascended the third step, he said, “Ameen.” When he descended, we said, “O Prophet of Allah (salallahu alaihi wasalam)! We have heard from you today something which we never heard before.” He said, “When I ascended the first step, Jibraeel appeared before me and said, “Woe to him who found the blessed month of Ramadhan and let it pass by without gaining forgiveness.” Upon that I said, “Ameen…”

Masha-Allah the people of United Kingdom will be earning themselves great rewards for their extent of sacrifice, fasting during the summer period however we need to remember that whilst we are undergoing such great lengths, fasting for such a long time let it not be that at the same time we are wasting away our deeds due to the performance of sin and evil. As Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wasalam) clearly prophesised years ago…  “Many of those who fast obtain nothing through such fasting except hunger and many of those who perform salaah during the night obtain nothing by it, except the discomfort of staying awake.” (Ibn Majah) May Allah save us all from being amongst such people. Ameen. Ensure that you remain far away from the TV set, from listening to any form of music, from the sin of immodesty and free mixing, from the sin of glancing at non mehrams and most of all from the deadly yet hidden sins such as backbiting and slander etc.

Finally dear readers, take a stock of your daily actions and question yourselves, Am I doing the best I can…We leave you with a checklist of deeds, If you are doing them then thumbs up, keep it up whilst if not try and implement these extra deeds into your daily actions.

>  Tahajud Salaah

>  Partaking in the blessed Suhoor

>  Salatul Ishraq- (approx 15 mins after sunrise)

>  Salatu-dhuha

>  Plenty plenty of Quran recital

>  Fixed amount of daily tasbih…Here’s a highly beneficial tasbih for the blessed month, try and recite it a 100 times daily…’Lailaha illallah Astagfirullah as’alukal Jannah wa a’oudhu bika minnan naar’

>  Awabeen salaah (after Magrib, if one is unable to pray 6 extra rakaats then you can make an intention in the two rakaats sunnah and nafil for Awabeen and just add another two rakaats to complete  the 6)

>  Remaining in the state of wudhu

>  Sleeping with wudhu

>  Daily recital of durood upon our beloved Prophet (salallahu alaihi wasalam)

>  Using a Miswaak

>  Performing the sunnah and nafil rakaats of salaah for maximum reward

>  Whilst finally not over eating at Iftaar!!

May the Almighty give us all the taufiq to reap the goodness and blessings of this blessed month! Ameen
