Many a time, with the tribulations and turbulence we face in life we succumb to thoughts of despair and hopelessness. From the life of our Beloved Prophet (Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) and the advice of our saintly elders, we learn that in order to find the goodness in everything we are experiencing along this journey of life, our response to such trials should be of resilience, hope, positive thoughts and inner strength.
Therefore my dear sister in Islam, let none of us despair in our hope or ever bring a complaint on our tongue with regards to the decree of Allah. In fact those who are serving the Deen of Allah must definitely keep good thoughts of Allah. Constantly remind yourself : ‘ Allah is doing good for me, my Rabb is bestowing me with goodness and unmeasurable favours. He will continue to do so. He will continue to take me through and bring me ease, He will accept my yearning and efforts. He will accept me’.This is necessary. ‘Husne Dhan Billah ‘ having good expectations of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala is from amongst the etiquette and manners of the Believers.
Jabir bin ‘Abdullah RadiyAllahu Anhu reported: I heard Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam saying three days before his death:
لاَ يَمُوتَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلاَّ وَهُوَ يُحْسِنُ الظَّنَّ بِاللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ
Translation: ‘None of you should die but hoping only good from Allah, the Exalted and Glorious.’ [Saheeh Muslim 2877]
We must not lose hope. There is always a way and indeed Allah is always with His righteous servants. Let us continue upon these good thoughts – let us constantly remind ourselves – Allah will do good for me, Allah will help me, Allah will make me successful. In this manner there is much hope that according to our thoughts Allah will thus deal with us.
Finally, let us ponder upon the beautiful Hadith Qudsi narrated by Abu Hurairah RadiyAllahu Anhu:
قَالَ اللَّهُ أَنَا عِنْدَ ظَنِّ عَبْدِي بِي
Translation: Allah said, ‘I am to my slave as he thinks of Me, (i.e. I am able to do for him what he thinks I can do for him). [Sahih al-Bukhari 7505]
This is also a special advice for those working for and serving the Deen. Never despair due to difficult circumstances or trials. Never give up or lose hope.
When we reflect upon these beautiful words we realise that there is so much wisdom behind this. Allah’s court is great. No one can ever fulfil Allah’s rights in a manner that He truly deserves. So our Lord opened a way of ease for us – that the outcome of our matters will be according to our thoughts of Him. SubhanAllah! Look how things got easy for us. Keeping good thoughts of Allah is very easy for us all to do. In turn our matters will be filled with goodness and ease
May the Almighty grant us the ability to continuously keep good thoughts and always keep hope in His everlasting mercy. Ameen.
