Is a woman in menstruation permitted to enter Masjid al-Haram and Masjid al-Nabawi?

Question:

Are women in a state of Haidh allowed to enter the haram in Makkah and Madinah? What is the ruling regarding entering a mosque in the state of haidh?

In the Name of Allāh, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is impermissible for a woman in the state of menstruation (haidh) to enter a Masjid[1] including the Haram in Makkah and Masjid al-Nabawi in Medina. It is against the sanctity of a Masjid to enter in such a state. A woman will be sinful by entering a Masjid in the state of menstruation. Tawbah and istighfār should be made for doing so.
