Question:
Would you explain please the difference between Wajib and Fardh? I understand they are both obligatory, but what is the difference?
Answer:
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Fardh is deduced from a text that is قطعي الثبوت andقطعي الدلالة .
قطعي الثبوت (Qat’īy-uth-Thubūt) means expressly established.
قطعي الدلالة (Qat’īy-ud-Dalālah) means expressly indicative.
In Wājib, only one of the two قطعي is found, i.e. it is either قطعي الثبوت or قطعي الدلالة, whilst the other is ظنّي (ambiguous), either ظنّي الثبوت or ظنّي الدلالة.
And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
