The environment at home is one of the most important factors that shape the personality of a person. Establishing a good environment will give a positive impact on every member of the household. Parents should be committed to inculcating Islamic values and morals to their children.
Below are few practical ideas. If you are already practicing it at home, Alhamdulillah, keep up the good work. If you haven’t it’s never late to start.
*Put together a small Islamic Library at home with Islamic Books, Magazines, Audio Lectures, Etc.
*Copy Authentic Islamic lectures onto CD’s and listen to them in your car, if you spend a lot of time on the road, or if you are going on a long journey.
*Keep a watchful eye over your children and who they associate with. Try to keep them away from bad company and encourage them to make friends who are pious, and have good character.
*Encourage the members of your household to perform Salaah, Fast and give Charity as a means of increasing Iman.Keep a box at home where members of the household donate money Fee Sabeelillah (in the path of Allah): whatever is put in the box belongs to them, because it is their vessel in the Muslim home.
*Allocate some time for the family to hold a study-circle at home and encourage them to attend regularly, so that it will be an ongoing commitment for you and them.
*Keep a check on yourself, your Husband, your children and all members of your household-are they upon sunnah, if not, are you working on correcting them?
*Take time to discuss and explain to members of your household and children on current issues concerning Islam and Muslims.
*Send the youth to Islamic camps and other interesting activities that are based on Islamic values.
*Have lectures of scholars playing at home or have them listen to Qur’aan reciters, or Du’as recited at various times of the day and night, or Anasheeds (with no instrumental accompaniment) with a useful message that will inspire, incite and motivate them.
*Spend at least 10 minutes daily after Maghrib Salaah with your entire family where you give advice or discuss some Islamic issue and make Dua for the Ummah.
*If you are looking to buy or rent a house, look for one in a Muslim majority area and as close to the Masjid as possible.
* To create an Islamic Environment, you need to extract yourself off from all that will lead you away from Islam, so:
a) Remove the TV
b) Remove all western magazines, Novels etc, from the house since this not only affects us adults, but influences our Children as well.
c) Stop listening to music and remove all Music Cds etc.
