Question:
I am a 4th year medical student. I don’t wish to practice medicine after graduating because i wish to spend proper time in learning about Deen and being in the company of Allah’s rightly guided people. I want to stay away from places where Allah’s laws are violated, but my parents want me to practice medicine after i graduate.Should i pursue my studies? please advice in the light of Quran and Sunnah.
Answer:
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
The place of a woman is at home. An unmarried woman will be maintained by her father and a married woman will be maintained by her husband.In the absence of both the father and husband, the Shariah laws of maintenance will apply. If there is no one to maintain a woman, then she may seek employment to support herself and her dependents if any.
You should apply the above quoted principle to yourself and act accordingly. If you find yourself in a difficult situation and family pressure to complete your studies, then you should do the following:
Make Tawba and Istighfar if you are in a coed environment.
Stay away from any Haram.
A woman must practice as a medical practitioner and serve women. That may present you an opportunity to serve people and make Da’wah.
And Allah knows best;
