We wish to mention the inspiring characteristics of our blessed mother Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her).A noteworthy quality was that she always avoided backbiting. This illness of backbiting has today become so widespread amongst us that we do not even realize when we are committing this sin. We have accepted it to be part of our daily conversation, yet have we ever stopped to think about what kind of a despicable act it is in the court of Allah and his beloved Nabi (May peace and blessings be upon him).
Allah says,
“O you, who have believed, avoid much [negative] assumption. Indeed, some assumption is sin. And do not spy or backbite each other. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his brother when dead? You would detest it. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is accepting of repentance and Merciful.”
(Surah Hujurat verse 12)
Sisters believe it or not but leaving this sin and safeguarding the tongue from this evil act (like the blessed Sahabiyaat aspired to do so) could actually allow us to progress in leaps, and act as a means of immense reformation in our lives. The Ulama advise that the best method to adopt in order to refrain from this sin is to simply not talk about anyone that is not in our presence. Because this way we wouldn’t ever talk about anyone unlawfully. It’s possible, we can all do it, all it requires is a little will power and a firm resolution. Come on beloved sisters let us leave this one act solely for the pleasure of our Rabb. Then await to see what blessings Allah (aza wajal) brings our way!
