Is non-surgical nose thread lift permissible?

Question:

Is the non surgical nose job AKA nose filler or the pdo nose thread lift permissible for me to do?

The effects are only temporary so would it be halal? Or in what cases would it be halal?

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Non-surgical nose thread lift uses absorbable threads made of polydioxanone (PDO) that are 100% bio-compatible with the human body. PDO threads are inserted horizontally into the nose bridge and vertically into the nose tip. The threads act as a scaffolding structure which helps to contour and shape the nose to the desired state.

The general ruling with regards to cosmetic surgery is that of impermissibility, for it involves mutilation of one’s body (muthla) and changing the nature created by Allah (taghyīr khalq Allah).[1][1] However, in genuine cases of extreme abnormality, there is a dispensation of permissibility, for necessity makes prohibition lawful.

Even though the effects of the aforementioned procedure are only temporary, it will still not be permissible since it is still an aesthetic cosmetic procedure meant to change one’s appearance.

The difference between the temporary nature of this procedure and other temporary forms of beautification such as applying henna and kuḥl is that in the former there is an active interest in semi-permanently changing the foundational aspects of one’s appearance for aesthetic purposes, whilst the latter seeks to merely enhance outer beauty. You may refer to the following fatwa for further details on cosmetic surgery.

 {وَلَأُضِلَّنَّهُمْ وَلَأُمَنِّيَنَّهُمْ وَلَآمُرَنَّهُمْ فَلَيُبَتِّكُنَّ آذَانَ الْأَنْعَامِ وَلَآمُرَنَّهُمْ فَلَيُغَيِّرُنَّ خَلْقَ اللَّهِ وَمَنْ يَتَّخِذِ الشَّيْطَانَ وَلِيًّا مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ فَقَدْ خَسِرَ خُسْرَانًا مُبِينًا}
