بِسْمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحْمٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

The month of Ramadhan is a primary course to attain Taqwa.

Taqwa is an internal strength to serve as a shield against sinning which needs to be developed with sincere intention and courage.

When we can exercise restraint from eating and drinking which are in fact natural demands of life, the ability to abstain from prohibited actions (Haram) becomes clear.

In order to develop and enhance taqwa and make the taqwa sustainable, don’t fast only as a religious obligation or a ritual fasting. Fast with the specific intention to develop taqwa.

The constant consciousness of developing taqwa during fasting will help sustain the taqwa for after Ramadhan to fight the nafs and Shaytan and to stay away from sins. With taqwa one will experience a different form of enjoyment which is absolute and is termed as the halawat (sweetness) of Iman. When one sins, he experiences only temporary enjoyment which creates anxiety and uneasiness.

Whenever you experience the pangs of hunger and thirst during fasting, at that point feed yourself with the intention and thought of the pleasure of Allah and to build your taqwa.

You will feel the sweetness of your fast and attain the desired taqwa.

 

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ 

Translation: O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you, as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may attain taqwa. {Quran:2,183}
